Press Kit
The Women’s Center of Wake County is a critical part of the local response to homelessness, providing safety, stability, and pathways to housing for women in need.
Through a low-barrier, trauma-informed approach, the Center meets women where they are. We offer essential daily services like meals, showers, and shelter, while also connecting guests to healthcare, behavioral health support, and long-term housing solutions.
By working alongside community partners, the Women’s Center helps women move from crisis to independence and supports a vision where homelessness is brief, rare, and non-recurring.

History
Founded in 1976, The Women’s Center of Wake County began as a resource for women transitioning out of incarceration. Today, it has evolved into Wake County’s only day shelter dedicated to serving women experiencing homelessness, providing comprehensive services focused on safety, stabilization, and long-term housing.
