Safe Haven

Hope, Healing, and Home

The Women’s Center of Wake County’s Safe Haven Shelter provides 24-hour comprehensive safety and stabilization services to single, adult women experiencing chronic homelessness with histories of severe and persistent mental illness.

Safe Haven is the most supportive type of transitional housing offered by the Women’s Center and is a part of our larger transitional housing program.

Our Safe Haven Shelter consists of eleven beds in our current location on New Bern Avenue. While some beds are reserved for referrals from Wake Med Community Health, the remaining beds are reserved for eligible guests of the Women’s Center.

Every guest utilizing the Safe Haven Shelter will enter a supportive program, where they will work with Women’s Center staff to establish personal goals with the long-term goal being permanent housing. The Safe Haven Shelter will provide multiple wrap-around services, in addition to the existing resources of the Day Shelter, as the program participants work toward permanent housing.
