Join a Women’s Center Committee!
The Women’s Center of Wake County has been an established and welcoming portal of entry for homeless women for over 46 years. The Women's Center of Wake County is dedicated to using evidence-based practices to provide stability and housing to single women experiencing homelessness. The Women's Center is unique in that it is the only crisis intervention and assessment day center in Wake County serving homeless women through a low barrier entry facility.
The Women's Center meets women where they are in real time. All women who visit receive an intake and then have access to case management and referrals to community services. They also receive critical basic needs such as meals, showers, hygiene items, laundry service access, clothing, day storage, Wi-Fi, computer access, phone, and fax services.
Women come from tent communities, living out of cars, or having lost their place of shelter due to domestic violence, interpersonal violence, trauma, assault, eviction, escaping human trafficking, etc. The Women's Center works closely with local area hospitals, behavioral healthcare facilities, and the Raleigh Police Department, as patients who are discharged are often sent to The Women's Center to begin the healing process.
Committee Member Expectations
Women’s Center Committees meet between board meetings and are a practical way to handle tasks on the board’s agenda. The primary responsibility of a committee member is to bring relevant skills and knowledge to areas within the committee’s oversight to help grow the work of the Women’s Center. Committees are chaired by Women’s Center board members who are a part oft he governing body of the corporation, and are ultimately responsible for managing the business and property of the Women’s Center.
The board and committee year both run from January - December. Unlike the board, members may join committees at any point in the year.
Who may apply to become a committee member?
